The road, with a slight incline, climbs up the valley of the River Arget or the Barguillère, a region once known for its metallurgy (nails), and winds its way through the woods. After La Mouline, the climb becomes steeper and, at Burret, the road diverges from the river, the source of which is in a wooded depression. The landscape becomes pastoral.
