The bold curves of the white façade, a masterpiece of Art deco architecture, were designed by Wolff Schoenmaker in 1933 for a Dutch press magnate before it became a hotel. During WWII, it served as the HQ of the occupying Japanese army and in the 1950's, it was merged with the University of Science and Education, whose offices it houses today.
