It is the nearest and longest of the Leeward Islands, measuring 3km/1.8mi in length and almost 1km/0.6mi wide. This biology reserve is covered for the most part in a woodland of eucalyptus and pine trees, whose scent fills the paths and walks. The island was already mentioned back in Antiquity by historians. Digs around Fort Royal have unearthed important vestiges such as houses, murals, mosaics and ceramics from the 3C BCE to the 1C CE.
