The Art Gallery has paintings and sculpture from the 18C to the 20C. Local artist Pierre Charles Trémolières (1703-39) is given pride of place. Hippolyte Maindron, Troyon, Diaz de la Peña, Maufra illustrate the 19C, while geometric abstraction predominates in the 20C. The History Gallery looks at Cholet in 1793, as well as the Vendée Wars. There is a series of famous full-length portraits of Vendée generals (including La Rochelaquelain and Cathelineau), commissioned by Louis XVIII for Château St Cloud.
