Clinging to the slope of a superb gorge, sculpted into paddy fields, Ciwidey (25km south of Bandung) is famous for its blacksmiths. From here the road disappears into the forest and 10km on, a road to the left leads up to Kawah Putih (6km): the wooded slopes of the "white crater" (2,350m) enclose an astonishing turquoise lake. Back on the main road, you soon reach Cimanggu Hot Springs and then, at the end of a little undulating tea planted plateau, the peaceful Situ Patengan lake.
