Situated at the extreme south of the Roman bridge, this Arab fortress was originally made up of two towers joined by an arch. In the 14C Henry II of Castile enlarged it and the arch was blocked in. Thereafter came many other alterations and over the centuries it has been a prison for the nobility, a barracks and even a school. Today it houses an audiovisual museum which traces the history of Cordoba in the time of great cultural, artistic, philosophical and scientific prosperity that was the Caliphate era.
