On Kennesaw Mountain north of Atlanta on July 2, 1864, Sherman drove Gen. Joseph E. Johnston and his 65,000 men from the Kennesaw line. Today Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park preserves more than 2,800 acres, including 11mi of original earthworks from the battle.
