The castle, largely remodelled in the 16C, still belongs to the illustrious La Rochefoucauld family. The arcades around the magnificent main courtyard evoke Renaissance Italy. Note the spiral staircase and elegant vaulting, as well as Marguerite of Angoulême's boudoir decorated with 17C painted panels. The castle boasts many family portraits by French masters such as Oudry and Rigaud. The library contains over 18,000 books.
