The House of Enlightenment occupies the fine Hôtel du Breuil de St Germain, which has been completely restored. Following a bright and well thought-out circuit, documents, objects, manuscripts and paintings tell the story of the life and work of Denis Diderot: the great philosopher was born in Langres in 1713 and spent part of his childhood here. The museum thus sheds light on the writing and creation of his great Encyclopédie. Through its modern design, the museum puts an exciting philosopher and period within everyone's grasp.
