It would be hard to miss this downtown attraction with the 120ft-high baseball bat marking its threshold. Hillerich and Bradsby Co., manufacturers of the world-famous bats, have been a Louisville mainstay since 1884, when the company called J. Frederich Hillerich, Job Turning made its first baseball bat at the request of the owner's son. The tour begins with an excellent movie, The Heart of The Game, which introduces the sport of baseball. Visitors then walk through a baseball dugout to a replica of Baltimore's Camden Yards stadium. In the adjoining exhibit area, you can see the actual bats swung by Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, Hank Aaron and other baseball legends, or select your favorite pitcher to hurl a baseball your way at 90mph (as you watch behind Plexiglass). The tour ends with a walk through the factory, where guides explain the manufacturing process that turns out 1,000 white-ash Louisville Slugger® bats a day during peak season.
