The two parts of the castle stand in an idyllic setting on islands protected by a double fortified wall. In 1271, the bishop of Münster ordered the Hauptburg (inner ward) be built to a semi-circular plan, to which a tower was added in 1550 and an overhang in 1620. Inside the castle, admire the furniture, wall paintings and frescoes on the ceilings. The outbuildings are situated on the first island and house temporary exhibitions.
