Félix Ziem (1821-1911) was not from Martigues but he fell in love with the place, and from then on tirelessly painted the Étang de Berre (Berre Lagoon) in a style that foreshadowed Impressionism. As well as seeing his works, you can get to know the Provençal painters better, including Guigou and Loubon and the Fauve painters (Dufy, Derain et al). Local archaeology and ethnology sections round off the collection.
