The mesa landscapes of Monument Valley will delight fans of western movies. However, don't expect to imitate John Wayne here as the visit is strictly waymarked in order to respect the privacy of the local Navajos. Fortunately, the route gives visitors a good introduction to the park, passing through some of the most beautiful landscapes in the American West. In order to see some of the more hidden areas, with their hogans, ruins and petroglyphs, you'll need to sign up for a tour with a Navajo guide.
