They were founded in 1545, which makes them one of the oldest botanical gardens in Europe. Admire the luxuriant exotic flora and a very "literary" palm tree: it was this palm tree which inspired Goethe to write his thoughts on the metamorphosis of plants. The gardens are a Unesco world heritage site.
