Portumna Cistercian Priory

South of the castle stand the ruins of a priory, originally a Cistercian chapel, which was then granted to the Dominicans by O'Madden, a chief of the local clan. The north and south windows (13C) of the apse were probably part of the Cistercian building. The rest of the priory (15C) contains a number of fine windows. The north transept seems to have been used as a dwelling. Parts of the cloister were rebuilt in the 20C.
