Stretching over a hillside presided over by the church and the foundry, the old town has a number of wooden houses in a unique style, with walls built using thick beams, some covered with planks to protect against bad weather. The traditional colours of red and ochre predominate. The two main streets are Kjerkgata, lined with cafés and boutiques selling craftwork, and the more residential Bergmannsgata, with the finest houses.
