This portion of the Black Sea coast is lined by a coastal road that runs as far as Tsarevo. The relatively late development of seaside tourism has miraculously preserved the fragile ecology at the mouth of the River Ropotamo, renowned for its dunes, wealth of wildlife and flora. A listed nature reserve since 1940, it is managed by the Bulgarian Biodiversity Foundation.
