Ogliastra province lies between the province of Nuoro to the northwest and Cagliari to the southwest. Lanusei, in the hinterland, and Tortolì on the coast, are 18km from each other. The "land of olive trees", vines producing the famous Cannonau, and of pastureland too, is home to huge forests of ancient evergreen and common oaks; bastions and spectacular limestone peaks stand opposite 80km of rocky pink and white coastline emerging from a clear blue sea.
