Straddling the Utah-Wyoming border, this recreation area surrounds a 91mi-long reservoir that backs up through colorful canyons carved through the Uinta Mountains by the Green River. Several marinas provide access for boating and other water sports. The Red Canyon Visitor Center and Overlook offers a bird's-eye view of the reservoir, in summer, from 1,400ft above Red Canyon. Guided tours of a 502ft concrete-arch dam are provided at the Flaming Gorge Dam Visitor Center.
