The Sauerland mountain region, home to the Lenne and Ruhr rivers, boasts picture-postcard scenery of forests and hidden villages. In winter, the area is particularly popular with skiers, most of whom converge on the town of Winterberg, while in summer, the region's many lakes make it the perfect destination for water sports, as well as hiking and mountain biking.
