A sick donkey that had been abandoned on the island by its owner and was later found healed was the first to benefit from A Toxa's waters. Today, the salutary spring has dried up, and the island has turned to tourism: covered in a lovely pine grove and boasting a remarkable location, a few pretty villages, an early-20C palace and a church covered with scallops, the landscape has on the whole been engulfed by holiday residences and huge, charmless hotels.
