This magnificent building (1875-81) built by Carl Schwalto in varnished brick and terracotta once housed the old post office. Note the medallions on the façade which bear images of Marco Polo, Gutenberg, Christopher Columbus, Franklin and Siemens, among others. The monumental entrance is crowned by an octagonal drum dome.
