The former Plaza de la Constitución, which in times past was a market square traversed in all directions by trams and horse-drawn carriages, is now a pedestrianised square. Simply laid out, it has at its centre a bronze statue of Bolívar, which serves as an assembly point for protesters from across the country. The four sides of the square are lined with imposing buildings boasting very different styles.
