Inaugurated on 15 December 2006, the same day that Oscar Niemeyer celebrated his 99th birthday, the National Museum, which he of course designed, is the largest dome ever constructed. The museum resembles a sort of concrete flying saucer with a circular ramp winding around the exterior and linking the two levels. Temporary exhibitions are shown in this vast 4 000m2 space, which also includes two auditoriums.
