The imposing bulk of this monastery, which was founded in the mid 16C and is one of the oldest religious buildings in the region, dominates Plaza de Cuitzeo. The monastery boasts a Plateresque façade richly decorated with cherubs and plant motifs. The remarkable two-storey cloister is surrounded by finely carved arcades, the vaults of which have retained some of their original paintings.
