This 84m-tall tower is a memorial to the heroes of the Battle of the Yser on the river's opposite bank. It bears the letters A.V.V.-V.V.K., which stand for the motto: "All for Flanders, Flanders for Christ". The panoramic view from the top takes in the Flanders plain and Diksmuide; on a clear day you can even see the belfries of Bruges, Ostend and Nieuwpoort, as well as the Flanders hills (viewpoint indicator). The museum on the first floor charts the two world wars and the history of the Flemish movement.
