The wild stony, maquis of Lousios Gorge is great terrain for hiking. Here, you will come across several monasteries, including Timios Prodromos, where the monks paint icons. Gortyn, a city dating back to the 4C BC, hidden away in the valley, houses the modest remains of a sanctuary dedicated to Asklepios, as well as a small 11C church.
