The village of Eskihisar has not really been built over the ancient city of Stratoniceia, but has rather become a part of it. Here, Ottoman houses stand alongside ancient buildings and the streets of the village are paved with marble. The sense of enchantment is enhanced by the total silence, the result of the abandonment of the village following an earthquake in 1957. It is within this context that Stratoniceia reveals its main sights: the entrance to the bouleuterion, the 3C AD theatre, and a huge gymnasium alongside the stadium.
