Often shrouded in mist, this lush valley follows the Skagit River, which flows westward from the Cascade Range. In the spring, it is covered with tulips, daffodils and irises from the horticultural farms surrounding Mount Vernon, its commercial heart. In autumn, birdwatchers come here to observe the bald eagles that nest and fish near Rockport. The picturesque village of La Conner has a waterfront lined with art galleries and craft shops.
