As it is now, the chateau essentially dates from the 13C and 15C, enhanced in the 16C by white tufa bay and dormer windows. The 12C-13C crypt and keep (exceptional timber frame added in 1220), hoarding and wooden gallery protruding from the wall, served to defend the bridge and as the foundations. The courtyard is encircled by ramparts, commanding a splendid view of the historic town.
