Inaugurated in 1913 after 15 years of construction, this memorial commemorates the 100th anniversary of the victory of the Allies (Battle of Leipzig) over the armies of Napoleon. 500 steps lead up to a terrace giving a view across the city and its surroundings. The crypt is supported by giant figures and sculptures of guards wearing armour.
