Situated on the road between Highgate and Hampstead Heath, Spaniards Inn was frequented in the 18C by the notorious highwayman Dick Turpin. The building is said to stand on the site of the 17C residence of the Spanish Ambassador. A gate once connected the building to the toll house which marked the entrance to the park.
