Around 20 million people a year take this ferry, mainly employees heading off to work. For visitors, it's a unique and free way to take in the skyline of Manhattan rising above the river, just as immigrants arriving by sea in times past must have seen it. Take a jumper and an anorak, as it can get very chilly out on the water!
