In an imposing neo-Classical building, the Rio Grande do Sul Art Museum presents an interesting collection of works by Brazilian painters. Also worth seeing is the J.-B. Debret room, dedicated to the French painter who was famous in Brazil for having founded Rio's Academy of Fine Arts and for having depicted daily life in the early 19C.
