The New Orangerie, built between 1851 and 1860, was inspired by Italian Renaissance villas according to plans drafted by Frederick-William IV. The apartments occupied by Czar Nicholas I and his wife, sister of the king of Prussia, are quite magnificent, in particular the Malachite Hall.
