At the northern end of the lake, the picturesque village of Songan has a magnificently decorated pretty temple. Pura Ulun Dnu has superb multi-roofed meru at its threshold, at the foot of the fern covered caldeira slope. From there, on a fine day it is worth climbing to the top of the caldeira. The view takes in Lake Batur on one side, and the east coast of Bali on the other, with Agung's omnipresent silhouette in the background.
