Although little remains of the fort built in 1775, the quiet El Presidio district is worth the detour for its picturesque houses, especially along Main Avenue. Each one's architectural type defines its age: the oldest are large adobe buildings adjoining each other, while after the arrival of the railway (1880) Victorian-style brick residences appeared, separated by gardens.
